What are Dermal Fillers?

Our skin is precious and delicate. Simple factors such as sun damage, smoking and diet can detrimentally affect it; our skin loses collagen, fat and other naturally occurring moisturising substances which help to keep it youthful in appearance. As this becomes more advanced, our skin becomes thinner and begins to fold. This forms wrinkles and deep lines as it loses elasticity.

Our bone structure also changes as we get older, and this can lead to a loss of volume in the face. This is a key factor in the appearance of ageing. Dermal fillers can help to replace this lost volume and rejuvenate the face.

Dermal fillers are made from a naturally occurring substance called Hyaluronic Acid, which is present between every cell in every living creature. By reintroducing this into the face, volume can be regained and a more youthful appearance is achieved.

Dermal fillers can also be used to enhance, define, shape or revolumise the face.

Dermal fillers are very versatile – they are some of the most popular non-surgical cosmetic treatments for men and women around the world

If you have lines or wrinkles that form only when the face is in motion, then our wrinkle reduction treatments may be more appropriate for you. Your practitioner will discuss the best option that matches your treatment needs at your free consultation.

What is involved in my treatment with dermal fillers?

At your consultation, you will be assessed to ensure you are a suitable candidate for our dermal fillers. Clinical photographs will be taken to record and compare your progress throughout treatment. Once you have been assessed, our gentle treatment options will be discussed with you to ensure they meet your treatment needs and to answer any questions that you may have.

The most commonly treated areas for our dermal fillers at Wigston House Dental Practice are:

    • Lips
    • Nasiolabial line (deep line from nose to corner of the mouth)
    • Smokers Lines (Perioral Rhytides)
    • Deep lines when the face is at rest

Treatment usually involves the application of local anaesthetic cream to the treatment area or a nerve block similar to a dental injection. The dermal filler is then comfortably injected via needle or cannula into the treatment area to fill out the deep line, wrinkle or fold.

You will then be given your tailored aftercare instructions to ensure you are comfortable after the procedure.
